Recruiting
In Australia, one of the sports Australia advertised for entertainment was surfing. When the war broke out, and they needed more men for the military branches, they stopped promoting surfing as entertainment, and instead sent their men off to war. This poster picture is trying to get men to feel badly that they are able to relax at home, while other men are over in another country fighting and dying for their freedom and safety. This shows that the government was wanting to be a part of the war and was supporting it by appealing to a guilty conscience in their advertising. This was targeted towards male adults who were of age and had the capability.
Conscription Act
This picture shows a little boy begging his mother to vote no for the Conscription Act. The Conscription Act would require any man that is physically able, and of the right age, to be sent over to fight. The little boy in the picture obviously knows that this would mean his father would be sent over seas and may not return. This piece can be considered propaganda because it originated from a group called the Anti-Conscription Campaign Committee. They wanted it to showcase how not everyone wants to be a part of the war. They were also appealing to the domestic home front. If the Conscription Act is passed it would not just affect the country but also his life and his family.
Debt VS. Death
Sign says: 'To the memory of the brave lads who fell at Gallipoli, 1915'
Man's bag says: 'Interest on War Loans'
This picture is showing that even though a loved one died in the war, the only thing the government is concerned about is getting money to continue their war efforts. The picture wants us to see how some people were so lacking in compassion that they wouldn't let someone grieve over their loved one. They were so focused on getting money to support the debt that was being created from the war. I think this is propaganda because it is trying to show how people are more concerned about money and not about someones personal well being. They are portraying that people weren't concerned about the right things.
